Are You More than Your Job?

An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.”  -Benjamin Franklin

What Do You Do?

How do you answer that question?  Do you immediately launch into an excited tale about your incredible occupation?  Or do you give a little sigh of resignation and respond with “I’m a ______,” or “I work at______?”  I’d bet that the majority of people fall into the latter category, even people who enjoy their jobs for the most part.  So, if we’re not all that excited by what we do for money, why do we allow it do identify us to such a degree?

I like to answer the question “what do you do?” with a witty More >

To Reclaim your Time, Control your Spending

“Economic independence is the foundation of the only sort of freedom worth a damn”-  H.L. Menken

Money is Time

To completely live our lives according to our own true values requires that we become independent of the influence money holds over our lives, which generally implies that we must become financially independent.  Almost everything that we do in this day and age costs money, whether it is upfront costs that we pay one time, or fees and expenses that just keep adding up.  I know this isn’t new information, but I think that most of us have a tendency to put things like this out of our More >

And We’re Back…

Procrastination is the bad habit of putting off until the day after tomorrow what should have been done the day before yesterday.”  -Napoleon Hill

No Excuses, Be Unstoppable

My valued readers…I would love to offer some big explanation for why I haven’t posted any new content in about a week, but we don’t deal in excuses here at the Wake Up Dead Man blog.  Things are definitely looking up though, with a few exciting posts already in draft form, just waiting to be finished.  In the meantime, I’m going to also be adding a blog roll to my site, so you can see some of the blogs I like to follow More >

Making Bad Coffee is the Path to Limitless Power

Coffee- the favorite drink of the civilized world.” – Thomas Jefferson

A Little Back-story

This post was inspired by an event I had the other morning in the break room at work.  The place I work has an abundance of various consultants who come and go, each with varying levels of responsibility, seniority, and sense of entitlement.  All of these different people report to various entities, and sometimes show up with no recognizable superiors at all.  When that happens, they are generally the type who have no responsibility, some seniority (depending on who you ask) and ridiculous levels of More >

Time Tracking Study Results

If time be of all things the most precious, then wasting time must be the greatest prodigality.” -Benjamin Franklin

The Study

Last week I made a post entitled “How Are You Using Your Time?” about a time use study done by the Bureau of Labor Statistics that tracked how people spent their time.  I mentioned in that post that I was somewhat appalled by some of the statistics, but I also pointed out the very sad fact that they were the average.  That means that to do a significantly better or worse job than those people at managing your time you would have to be an outlier, meaning that you fall More >

How Are You Using Your Time?

Since time is the one immaterial object which we cannot influence — neither speed up nor slow down, add to nor diminish — it is an imponderably valuable gift.”  -Maya Angelou

As you might have noticed, the concept of time is a pretty central part of this blog, so that being the case, it is only natural that we start delving into the interdisciplinary field of Time Use Research.  I did a little snooping around and finally made my way over to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, where I found an absolute ton of information on how people use their time.  Some of it actually surprised me, in a good More >
